Real compassion: a border protection policy that works
Apparently, there’s no compassion in a border protection policy that works. But there is more compassion in a failed joke of a policy that saw our nation’s borders left wide open while over 1000 people died while scrambling across the sea to get in.
The Fairfax and ABC journalists are frothing at the mouth about compassion in every second article. But it is just a meaningless word. The fact is this: they want Abbott’s border policies to fail because they want him to fail.
I share one thing in common with these people. I don’t particularly like Abbott. However, I don’t want him to fail. Just as I didn’t want Rudd or Gillard to fail either. They might have been terrible Prime Ministers. But I would have much preferred it if they weren’t.
Abbott is a dangerous man because he is trashing the Catholic faith. He knows that as well as I do.
But I’m happy to admit it when he gets something right. And on an issue as important as border security, I’ll be more than happy to admit that his government is doing a good job. I wish he would do as good a job on other important issues, like life and family.
