Brisbane City Council
As the lead Senate candidate for the Australian Liberty Alliance in Queensland, I have received many questions from Queenslanders about candidates standing for local government election. As such, candidates with email addresses have received a short questionnaire (shown below).
Each candidate’s response (or non response) to these questions is also listed below for your information. Please note that this information is provided for your consideration only. The Australian Liberty Alliance has not endorsed any candidates for local government elections on 19 March, 2016.
If you wish to find out more about your local candidates or communicate directly with them, you can click on their names below to open the Electoral Commission of Queensland’s candidate contact page.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE
Mosques
Many Queenslanders are concerned about Islam and its impact on social cohesion and safety. They do not want to see mosques in their local community.
Question 1: Will you oppose all development applications for a mosque in your local government area?
Funding of Islam
Many Queenslanders are concerned that government funds are being used to promote Islam, in the form of grants for open mosque days or Islamic religious events.
Question 2: Will you oppose any plan for your local government to provide grants for open mosque days or other Islamic events or activities?
Asylum Seekers
Many Queenslanders are concerned that large numbers of asylum seekers will be housed in their local community.
Question 3: Will you oppose any plan for your local government to declare itself as a ‘refugee welcome zone’?
Sharia law and political activism on Commonwealth issues
Many Queenslanders are concerned about Sharia law and do not want to see it established in Australia. A recent proposal by the former Human Rights Commissioner, Tim Wilson, regarding marriage put forward the idea that marriage laws should be changed to recognise all religious marriages, including Islamic marriages. This would result in the recognition of Sharia family law.
Question 4: Will you oppose political activism in your local council to promote the activist campaign to change Commonwealth laws on marriage, opening the door for recognition of Sharia family law?
Use of ratepayers’ money
Many Queenslanders are concerned that governments at all levels wastes money. This question is not about whether you believe in climate change, but about whether you will work to obtain the best use of ratepayers’ money
Question 5: Will you ensure that your local council uses the cheapest form of electricity and that it does not waste ratepayers’ funds on climate change programs, which are outside the remit of local government?
