With a name like this…

So, over the weekend this story in The Brisbane Times caught my attention:

The ABC has been labelled an enemy of the LNP by party members.

At the LNP state convention, being held in Brisbane over three days, members passed a resolution calling on the federal Coalition government to “enforce the ABC charter by ensuring balanced debate”.

Logan state electoral council (SEC) member Bernie Gaynor lashed the national broadcaster, arguing the ABC was “not our friends, they are our enemies”.

“Everybody in this room should realise right now that the ABC spends 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year, on a whole range of levels, working against us,” he said.

Mr Gaynor suggested the charter could be enforced via withdrawing funding.

“You’re lucky I didn’t get a motion in calling for the ABC to be banned completely, scrapped, sold off, because I tell you what, I’ll put it in next year,” he said.

Just to make it clear, the Bernie Gaynor referred to in this article is not me. But we share the same views.

It must be something to do with the name and it’s proof that the world would be a much better place if there were a few more Bernie Gaynors floating around.

Don’t worry, I’ve done my bit to make sure the next generation has at least one.

As for the ABC, it should be sold. Its taxpayer-funded model fundamentally distorts the economics of media and news.

Rent-seeking lefty commentators should not be given a free run courtesy of the public purse. If they want to earn a living airing their views, they should do so by producing content that the public can freely choose to pay for. Or not.

I’m guessing that most in the ABC know that they would never get by if they were not cocooned in a billion dollar system that is funded by forcibly siphoning hard-earned cash from every Australian worker, regardless of whether they tune into the ABC or not.

Sell the ABC. And let Australian workers choose if they would prefer to subscribe to a sports network or a commercialised ABC running QandA episodes about the impact of climate change on sex-change surgery…

  1. Bernard, I replied in detail to your sarcastic comment and note that (1) my response was deleted and (2) you have not responded ‘privately’ to me.
Are you planning to reply to me?

    • Update: I was incorrect. I now see that my response to your remarks are still there “awaiting moderation”. Therefore I withdraw my words “my response was deleted”.
However I still await a reply. THESE MATTERS ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR EGO, BERNARD!!!!

  2. I really do think it is time that the ABC is sold of to private enterprise. Even if the Muslims them selves purchase the net work for their own use at least they could do their thing with out the need to be deceitful to the real world. Besides there isn’t any thing that the ABC runs that is of value to the rest of the sane world.

    • Yes, Ken, you are 100% correct re ABC being sold.
However, yours is one one of THOUSANDS -perhaps even millions – of similar viewpoints.
Viewpoints that have for fifty years been individually expressed to politicians, letters to newspapers and genera whingeing to all who were willing to listen.
Has all that effort made any difference over the past 50 years?
Or have the ABC, SBS, education, the media generally and indeed all governments themselves, yes even the Liberals, just relentlessly been leaning ever more leftist/socialist?
“We’ – including Bernard and many more ‘wanna-be leaders’ are too determinedly ‘individualistic’ and therefore too hopelessly divided.
      And “divided we…..?”
My previous post here says it all…

      • Thank you for your comments Peter.

I can see that you believe we should all unite around you because you are not a ‘wanna-be’. Please tell us exactly why we should do that? I’m all ears.

  3. While so many conservative ‘wanna-be-leaders’ remain determined to be the big frog in their own little impotent pond (Bernard being just one of too many) the forces united in their determination to destroy Australia – the ABC being only one of them – will relentlessly advance.
It does appear that so many well-intentioned (self-serving?)conservatives cannot understand a simple, longstanding principle – “Unite or Die.”
Or is it that they do not want to understand because that would mean they would have to put Australia first and can no longer be the big frog in their little pond?
Ten years ago I – and I alone – called on all conservatives to “Unite or Die.”
I have been determinedly ignored – including by Bernard.
Since then has there been any MEANINGFUL progress in pushing back the advancing forces of darkness?
    The answer is clear.
Keep ignoring the inarguable truths that I present, Bernard (and the too-many other ‘big frogs’) even as you claim to be a ‘devout’ Catholic following a Christ who said you-know-exactly-what about the truth and in this instance Australia being ‘saved.’
    SHAME on all of you.
As explained in a video I created and posted, YOU are all directly responsible for for the ongoing destruction of all that was good about Australia!

    • Oh bullshit, Peter!

The “YOU” that you are so fond of abusing are the ONLY ones who have attempted to PREVENT the “destruction of all that was good about Australia.” So far (after more than thirty years of ineffectual, too-little, too-late activity) they haven’t had much success. But that wasn’t THEIR fault! At least they TRIED. What did everyone else do? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

You are right in your pointing out the lack of cohesion amongst conservative people, but you could certainly have been a LOT more constructive in your manner of doing it – and of following up with constructive, encouraging, exemplary LEADERSHIP to remedy the problem. Ghandi said years ago, “BE the change you want to see in the world.” It’s a pretty good mantra! In the absence of anyone better in sight, I’m standing with Bernard. It’s a novel thought, but you might like to try supporting and encouraging him too, instead of tearing him down.

  4. Advertisement for the Drum….Panel shows total of 6 females, o males. 50% of those females wearing islamic head coverings. Their ABC indeed.

The most famous jihadist spelled it out pretty clearly:

“The interests of Muslims and the interests of the Socialists coincide in the war against the Crusaders.”
~ Osama bin Laden, February 12th, 2003, Al Jazeera Television

  5. I have had cause to look at Triple J’s web page in the last few days.
There is so much “advice” about sex that it could be mistaken for a therapist.
Mind you it would be a lefty, “we will enable you to do anything” type therapist.
What the ABC thinks it is doing promoting this stuff is any body’s guess.
    There is no restraint.
    Shut Triple J down.

  6. The world is screaming toward socialism where the government control everything until they run out of our money. It always ends badly with no exceptions. The trend is everywhere across the world and the ABC have been weaponized and are up to their lefty necks in it. They do not stick to their charter and unless you are a multicultural nutter or aboriginal then you are not important. For goodness sake its run with public money yet they say how they will spend it and Ita Buttrose has made no difference. I am ashamed of the ABC.
