The truth is that the Liberals support abortion – just like Labor

Julia Gillard has pulled out the old abortion chestnut.

In her desperation to cling to power she has shown her true colours. Gillard supports a society where innocent children are slaughtered. And she claims that voters should avoid Tony Abbott and the opposition because they will actually be a good government and end this murderous practice.

You might think that Tony Abbott and the opposition would thank her for this endorsement. But they haven’t. Instead, the alternative government is falling all over itself to highlight its brutality as well.

Julie Bishop proudly and boldly states that the Liberal/National coalition will do nothing on abortion. Tony Abbott has already gone on a crusade this year to outline his support for legalised abortion.

If you are under the misguided belief that these are just words uttered by the Liberal leadership to ensure an election win and that they actually will do something to end abortion, or even reduce it, you need to think again.

Think long and hard. When was the last time a Liberal/National government, at state or federal level, actually did anything on abortion?

If you are honest with yourself, you will realise this: for as long as anyone can remember, these governments have done nothing of substance. Or more truthfully, they have continued to preside over brutal regimes implemented by Labor. That means they support those regimes as well.

And if we go back to the famous RU-486 debate you must also realise this: it wasn’t a Labor government that took the power off the Health Minister to veto this dangerous drug. It was a Liberal government.

Furthermore, Tony Abbott has made it very clear he is not going to revisit that decision.

Besides all this, do you really think a party that believes it’s hunky-dory to lie about its position on abortion will have the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing? I think the answer to that is pretty clear. The answer is no.

This is the truth. Pro-lifers have lost every political battle since before I was born. And if they keep doing what they have been doing since before I was born they will continue to lose them.

Tony Abbott and the Liberals might be better than Gillard’s Labor on any number of issues. That is not really an achievement. A Grade 3 class could probably do a better job of running this country.

But on the issues of morality, the Liberals are actually worse. That is because the Liberals pretend to care but they don’t. That is because they take the pro-life vote and abuse it.

I don’t know how many times I have heard the message that the pro-life vote got the Liberals over the line at the last Victorian election. So what? The Liberal Party might have won because of pro-lifers, but they continue to enforce the most brutal abortion laws in the Western world.

And I am well aware of the many people within the Coalition who work long and hard to achieve good. But they never succeed. Their efforts are wasted.

If you want something done about abortion, you must stop voting for the Liberal/National coalition. You will probably find one of the pro-life parties is just as good as the Liberals on all the other issues anyway.

And even if only five per cent of Australians do this, they will be able to start a truly successful political movement. Think of the Greens, but this time a political force for good.

Five per cent will get the major parties’ attention. They will want preferences next election. They will need to act to get them. They will know that five per cent can become ten. And they will also know that five per cent can control the senate.

If you actually want your vote to change abortion laws after the next election, you need to change the way you vote. You need to stop feeding the Coalition.

And you can still change government by putting Labor last. It’s not that hard.
