Chief of the Army LTGEN David Morrison and his deputy, MAJGEN Angus Campbell, are a fine brace of hypocrites.
The latest Army sexual abuse scandal is proof of that, emerging while they are busy drumming out a decent and moral Catholic, the intelligence officer and Iran/Afghanistan veteran, Major Bernard Gaynor, who dared to criticise the decision to allow ADF members to march in the Gay Mardi Gras in uniform.
What does the leadership expect when it allows serving personnel to appear in a parade that flaunts sexuality to such a degrading level?
Do they think it enhances self discipline in the ranks, whether the members are gay or straight?
Over his 12 years service Major Gaynor, an Arabic speaker, has had an impeccable service record. He offended by daring to voice concerns about the Army’s image and the message the chiefs were sending about disciplined behaviour by allowing a presence in uniform at the Mardi Gras and by suggesting a link between terrorism and Islam.
The rot in the Australian Army starts at the top. Morrison and Campbell have clearly failed as leaders of men and if justice was done they would be asked to resign or they would be sacked.
