I happened to be in Sydney recently, travelling with the ‘Eyes On Sydney’. We went through Lakemba – that diverse jewel in our land of tolerance.
And what did we see? This:
‘Allahu akbar’, or the Islamic refrain that Allah is greatest towering over Haldon Street, Lakemba’s main thoroughfare.
It’s a brazen and open challenge to Australia’s Western Christian civilisation. As such, one cannot be surprised that Haldon Street creates an environment that has seen that challenge move from the philosophical to the practical.
Haldon Street housed the childcare ‘business’ that is linked to a $27 million scam to fund the Islamic State.
And one of Australia’s first terrorist suspects, Willie Brigitte, prayed at a prayer hall on Haldon Street. He was jailed for 9 years for his support of al Qaeda and was later linked to the Charlie Hebdo terror attack in France.
Other examples linking Haldon Street with terrorism abound.
Consequently, you’d think that Haldon Street would be a matter of interest for the government. And so it is.
The New South Wales government and Multicultural NSW (the state’s publicly funded multicultural agency) are the primary sponsors of the Haldon Street festival. Unsurprisingly, it celebrates community harmony…

Growing up, I used to go to the dentist in Lakemba.
The cultural landscape of Lakemba is now unrecognisable from what it was back then.
It’s a whole new world out there now.
Lakemba has morphed into ‘Little Lebanon’, with a hostile, brooding atmosphere generated by the now locals.
Heartbreaking.
