Well I guess no one saw this coming, least of all Tony Abbott.
But in their usual inimitable style, the Head Honchos of Australia’s Islamic community have just gone and proved Abbott and all the other people living in the fairy land known as ‘Moderate Islam’ wrong.
That’s because they’ve just objected to laws that prohibit advocacy of terrorism. There is now a collective Frenzy of Imams concerned that these laws will place those who preach from the Quran at risk of a stint in the slammer.
This is how it was reported in brisbanetimes.com.au:
A Muslim cleric who preaches from certain passages of the Koran could be caught in the “broad” net of the government’s new anti-terror law, Islamic leaders have warned.
Grand Mufti of Australia Ibrahim Abu Mohammad and the Australian National Imams Council have called for the offence of “advocating terrorism” to be removed from the so-called Foreign Fighters Bill, currently before Parliament.
In other words, the Quran teaches terrorism and violence and the ‘moderate’ leaders of the religion of peace admit it. It’s a bit hard not to really, with verses like this being sent to the ‘Prophet’ Mohammad:
“Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.”
Now there’s a ‘divine’ exhortation to get off your lazy, disinclined backside to wage war, if ever there was one.
And so, in response, Australia’s imams have decided that they shouldn’t refrain from preaching those segments of the Quran that advocate terror. Instead, they’ve started whining about how these laws unfairly target them.
They’ve also kindly pointed out that Christians could wind up in jail if they advocate terrorism as well.
Thanks for the concern, oh ye bearded men of Allah.
But as you may have noticed, there seems to be a dearth of men yelling out ‘Christ the King’ while lopping heads off random infidels going about their daily lives. And unlike Mohammad, Christ didn’t teach that His disciples should dabble in this kind of thing anyway. So if it ever happened that a preacher advocated terrorism from the pulpit, there would be a bunch of Christians demanding that the book be thrown at the bloody lunatic.
That would help explain the complete lack of concern by the Catholic Church and others at proposed laws that will remove their ‘right’ to advocate terrorist activity.
As such, Christians don’t have all that much to worry about in the current hullabaloo, except if they happen to have the misfortune of living somewhere like Mosul.
So don’t try and bring us in to muddy the waters.
Leading the charge in defence of Quranic teaching of terrorism is Australian Grand Mufti, Ibrahim Abu Mohammad.
You might remember that he’s featured prominently on these pages before for his bizarre claim that more mosques will reduce Islamic violence. A mosque, by definition, is a place where the Quran is preached. Including the bits that promote violence. Now you see can see why his claim is bizarre.
The Grand Mufti has teamed up with the lesser muftis of the esteemed Australian National Imams Council to raise some other Islamic concerns about these laws as well. ANIC has also had a couple of gigs in these pages, not least of all because this fine collection of men objected to media reporting about the ‘marriage’ of a 12 year old girl. They promptly followed this by praising Lebanese marriage laws permitting women at the tender age of nine to be sent to their nuptials under the loving gaze of their fathers.
Specifically, this lot reckon that laws outlawing the promotion of terrorist activity unnecessarily interfere with their rights to religious belief and freedom of speech. Hypocritically, this is the same mob that was unhappy when Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act was to be repealed. And then our Prime Minister deferentially cited Islamic concern as the reason these changes would not go ahead, denying ‘Team Australia’ the freedom of speech that it voted for.
Seemingly, there is not a fair and level playing field when it comes to freedom of speech. The logic of Australia’s imams is that they should have the freedom to preach and threaten violence from the Quran. And the rest of us should not have the freedom say that the Islamic religion is dangerous for your health because they find it offensive.
And that is not all these clerics are unhappy about. They are also a little down on the idea that Muslims should be prevented from going to illegally fight in defence of Islamic lands. Of course, they are a little more upset that Australian planes are now bombing the Islamic State to kingdom come.
And it should be noted at this point that those Muslims from the Australian community who have gone to the Middle East to defend Islamic lands are now at war with the Australian Defence Force.
So let’s just recap what we’ve learnt today:
- Australia’s Islamic leadership has confirmed that the Quran advocates terrorism.
- Australia’s Islamic leadership has confirmed that they preach from the Quran.
- Australia’s Islamic leadership believes that religious freedom means that they should be able to freely preach the violent parts of the Quran.
- Australia’s Islamic leadership believes that freedom of speech gives them the right to do so.
- And Australia’s Islamic leadership believes that Australia’s Muslims have a duty to fight for Islam over and above anything that the laws of this land might say. Even if it means going to war with our nation’s military.
Given all of this, one has to ask why anyone anywhere still believes in moderate Islam.
